What to Expect

What to Expect

Sometimes it’s easier to arrive in an unknown place to speak to an unknown person when you have an idea about what to expect!

You can expect to be warmly welcomed in my office and to feel at home.

First Parent Consultation

In the initial parent consultation session, I like to meet with both parents if possible. During this session, I’ll get a sense of the family, the issues that have brought you to seeking play therapy, and most importantly, understand the child concerned.

I am child-centered but also believe strongly in parents taking time to care for themselves to sustain the energy it takes to parent in today’s world.

Play Therapy Sessions

When you bring your child in for play therapy sessions:

  • I will spend the entire 50-minute session with the child.
  • Parents can wait in the provided waiting room.

Feedback

I typically provide feedback to parents after 4–6 sessions. This involves:

  • Deciding whether the therapy should continue.
  • Checking in on how the child is doing.

For adolescents, they may be invited into the feedback session to participate where appropriate.

Therapy Endings

Endings in therapy are as important as beginnings. When the decision is made to close the therapy process, I’ll have a goodbye session with your child to positively close the experience.
