What to expect

Playroom 5 cropped

Sometimes it's easier to arrive in an unknown place to speak to an unknown person when you have an idea about what to expect!

You can expect to be warmly welcomed in my office, and to make yourself at home. In the first parent consultation session, I like to meet with both parents if possible. I will get a sense of the family, the issues that have brought you to seeking play therapy and most importantly, of the child concerned.

I am child-centered, but at the same time I believe strongly in parents taking time to care for themselves in order to sustain the energy it takes to parent children in this day and age!

Sometimes it's easier to arrive in an unknown place to speak to an unknown person When you bring your child in for play therapy sessions, I will spend the whole session with the child. Sessions are 50 minutes long and there is a waiting room for parents.

I will give feedback generally after 4 - 6 sessions to the parents and it will involve making a decision about whether the therapy will continue or not as well as a check-in as to how the child is doing. Adolescents will most likely be invited into this feedback session to participate where appropriate.

Endings in therapy are just as important as beginnings, just like in life! When we have made the decision to close the therapy process, I will have a goodbye session with your child to close off the process in a positive way.
